Introduction
The idea for this illustration began with a photo that I took of my niece at my mother's house (her grandmother) and I wanted to highlight several points that I saw in the photograph and give it a much warmer tone.
Concept
In this illustration, I aimed to capture a child's perspective, with a focus on textures, height, and limited visibility. I wanted to convey the idea that the world can be a mysterious and playful place, full of exciting discoveries for a child. By adding movement to the ground and showing only glimpses of certain objects, I aimed to evoke a sense of diffuseness and mystery that is often present in childhood memories. At the same time, I wanted to highlight my niece's curious, mischievous, and fun personality, which shines through in her playful interactions with her surroundings.
Sketch
For the sketch, I focused on capturing the perspectives and key elements of the composition. I wanted to make sure that the image was easy to read and that the viewer could understand the spatial relationships between different objects in the scene. To achieve this, I carefully considered the placement and size of each element, making sure that they worked together harmoniously. In terms of the human figure, I chose to depict the adult up to their chest, along with the table and other key elements, in order to convey a sense of height and scale. Overall, I wanted to create a sketch that would serve as a solid foundation for the final illustration, providing a clear roadmap for the rest of the creative process.
Final Illustration
To arrive at the final result, I experimented with various elements and colors, discarding those that did not contribute to the message I wanted to convey. Throughout the process, I focused on adding textures and creating contrast, particularly with the fruits, which are softer in contrast to the context. Warm colors were used to create a friendly atmosphere and emphasize the playful spirit of childhood.
Ultimately, I was pleased with the final result and decided to print the illustration as a gift for my niece. Seeing her reaction and how much she appreciated it was incredibly satisfying. I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to do, and I am proud of the effort and creativity that went into this project.
